Terms of Use
The terms for using typeshift.ca and coming to TypeShift workshops.
Last updated: October 13, 2026
1. Using TypeShift
TypeShift runs free, hands-on AI workshops for high school and university students, in Calgary and online, and is run by volunteers. These terms apply when you use typeshift.ca or come to a TypeShift workshop. By using the site or signing in, you agree to them, to our Privacy Policy and to our Code of Conduct.
2. Your account
- An account is for one person. Use your own details, and keep them up to date.
- Keep your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what is done with your account; tell us at info@typeshift.ca if you think someone else is using it.
- If you are under 13, a parent or guardian should create your account or give you permission to use the site.
- You can stop using your account at any time, and ask us to delete it.
3. Workshops
- Workshops are free. Registering holds you a place; please cancel on the site if you can't come, so someone else can.
- Workshops are run by volunteers, so a date, time, place, speaker or topic may change, or a workshop may be cancelled. We will try to let the people who registered know in good time.
- At an in-person workshop, follow the venue's rules and the organizers' directions.
- Workshops use AI tools and services run by other companies. When you use them, you do so under their terms, and you are responsible for the accounts you create with them and what you put into them.
4. Conduct
Everyone at a workshop, online or in person, follows the Code of Conduct. On the site, don't:
- pretend to be someone else, or submit information that isn't yours to share;
- post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or misleading;
- try to get into accounts, data or parts of the site you aren't meant to; or
- disrupt the site, or collect information about other people from it.
We may remove content, cancel a registration, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Code of Conduct.
5. What you send us
What you submit, such as an application, a workshop proposal, a bio or a photo, stays yours. You give TypeShift permission to use it to run our workshops, and, where the form says so or you are accepted as a speaker or volunteer, to show it on the site and in posts about TypeShift. You can ask us to take it down at any time.
Only send what you have the right to share, including photos of other people.
6. Photos and recordings
We take photos at workshops and record some of them, and share them in the Archive, on the site and on social media. The Privacy Policy says how to ask not to be photographed, or to have a photo or recording of you taken down.
7. Our materials
Workshop materials, recordings and the site's content belong to TypeShift or the people who made them. You are welcome to use them to learn, and to share links to them. Ask us before republishing them or using them commercially.
8. Other sites
The site links to other sites and services, such as maps, calendars, online meeting services and our partners' sites. We don't control them, and their own terms and privacy policies apply.
9. No guarantees
TypeShift is provided free and as it is. We do our best to keep the site working and its information right, but we can't promise it will always be available, accurate or free of errors. What you learn at a workshop is for learning; check it before you rely on it.
10. Limits on our responsibility
As far as the law allows, TypeShift and its volunteers are not responsible for any loss or damage from using the site, coming to a workshop, or using the tools shown there. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we update them here and change the date at the top. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and of Canada that apply there.
